Epic Relics
At 3-Stars and below, Vex is generally considered a lower-tier champion (approx. 3/10).
However, upon reaching 4-Stars and unlocking the 'Star of Discovery' constellation node, her performance dramatically improves. At this stage, she transforms into a top-tier control powerhouse (9.5/10) and is considered by many to be the strongest champion from Bandle City.
Primary Build
The absolute essential relic. It boosts Spirit and, more importantly, Gloom application, allowing Vex to debuff enemies into irrelevance significantly faster.
Unlike most champions, Vex’s power budget relies on the Star of Discovery (which grants +4 damage to acquired spells). Loaded Dice is crucial to aggressively re-roll shop and reward nodes to find damage spells like Pie Toss or Withering Wail equivalents to abuse this bonus.
Synergizes perfectly with Fear-Cleaving Axe to apply massive board-wide Gloom immediately upon playing Vex, often clearing or neutralizing the board instantly.
Other Relic Options
While many players advocate for this to get two Vexes on the board (doubling the Gloom application aura), others find it clunky, arguing that it consumes board space and delays her impact too much compared to just casting spells.
There is a divide on whether Vex should be attacking. Some players use this to attack safely and trigger her on-attack Gloom boost. Others argue Vex is a 'back-row engine' who should never be in combat, preferring to keep mana open for control spells rather than attacking.
Some players use this for consistency and Champion Spell spam (Shadow Surge), while others find her Champion Spell too slow and prefer drafting non-deck spells.
Further boosts spell damage, particularly for Withering Wail to secure kills on high-health targets.
Constellation
Vex is considered one of the most 'investment-hungry' champions in the game, scaling harder with Constellations than almost any other unit.
Star of Discovery (Minor Node): This is widely cited as the single most important upgrade in her entire kit—arguably more vital than the major stars. It grants Charging Sigil III (+4 Damage) to all spells found during the adventure. Without this, she struggles to kill high-health units; with it, she becomes a board-wipe machine.

Looming Darkness
Round Start: If you have the attack token, Boost all enemies.
Psychological Warfare
+1 Starting Mana. Your spells and Skills damage enemies in the form of Gloom.
Looming Darkness II
Round Start: Boost all enemies.
Explosive Finale
When an enemy dies outside of combat, deal 4 Damage to the enemy Nexus.Review
Essential for speeding up runs. Dealing 4 damage to the enemy Nexus whenever an enemy dies turns Vex from a slow control deck into a fast burn deck. It solves her main issue of closing out games after stabilizing.
Manaflow
Game Start: Get a mana gem.
Everything is Misery
When an enemy dies outside of combat, grant other enemies Gloom.Review
Highly praised for its 'domino effect.' It allows Gloom to spread exponentially and chain-kill entire boards. While considered overkill for standard adventures, it makes her extremely comfortable in high-tier Nightmares (5.5* and 6.5*), allowing her to delete boards of massive units effortlessly.
Gameplay Tips
- Draft Spells, Cut Units
Vex’s followers are generally considered weak/filler. The optimal strategy is to aggressively draft damage spells (which receive the +4 damage buff) and cut from the deck at Healer nodes.
- Prioritize the 'Star of Discovery'
If you cannot fully max her constellation, prioritize the path to the Star of Discovery node on the far left. She is functionally a different champion once this is unlocked.
- Ignore Keywords
Gloom reduces stats directly, meaning Vex bypasses defensive keywords like Tough, Regeneration, and Formidable. She is a hard counter to adventures featuring these mechanics.
- Stall Tactics
Against encounters like Jarvan IV or high-stat Nightmares, do not try to trade units early. Use spells to reduce enemy units to 0 power; a unit with 0 power is harmless and clogs the enemy board, preventing them from playing stronger threats.
- Resource Management
Vex consumes Bandle City Star Crystals and Nova Shards, not Shadow Isles resources. Plan your currency accordingly.
