Good (7/10)
Low Investment
Mel is a solid, above-average champion capable of clearing high-tier content. Her effectiveness is highly dependent on specific relic builds designed to overcome an inherently slower, more deliberate pace compared to faster, combo-oriented champions. She is best classified as a high B-tier or low A-tier champion—competent, but not a 'must-have' for every roster.
The "Chase Gun" Build
  • Echoing Spirit icon
Essential for consistency and cost reduction, enabling frequent re-summons.
  • Dreadway Chase Gun icon
Equipping two maximizes the generation of Warning Shots on summon.
  • Guardian Angel icon
A viable alternative to a second Chase Gun, providing a straightforward way to re-summon Mel.

Strategy

This build transforms Mel into a burn-damage engine. By generating multiple Warning Shots, her star powers and level-up condition can be triggered rapidly. The core strategy involves intentionally allowing Mel to be removed from the board so she can be replayed, generating fresh hands of Warning Shots to target the enemy Nexus.
The "Standard/Control" Build

Strategy

This build focuses on generating and repeatedly casting Mel's champion spell, Rebuttal, to control the board and scale her power over the course of the game.
Other Relic Options
  • Searing Brilliance icon
This relic's effectiveness is inconsistent. While the stats and keyword generation can be powerful, its reliability depends on thinning the deck to ensure it targets high-value spells like Rebuttal. Its performance is often considered less optimal on Mel compared to other champions like Janna or Master Yi.
  • Chemtech Duplicator icon
While offering a high potential for damage, this relic is often too slow for Mel's game plan in high-difficulty adventures. The duplicated spells can also fail to resolve if their original targets are removed, leading to wasted value.
Constellation
The 5-Star mana gem is considered Mel's most critical upgrade. Without the additional starting mana, her deployment is often too slow to stabilize against the aggressive pace of high-star adventures.

    Review
This star power is a low-impact upgrade. It provides minor utility that does not significantly contribute to her primary win conditions or survivability compared to the 4-star upgrades of other champions.

    Review
This upgrade is generally seen as underwhelming for its high resource cost. It does not offer the significant power spike or cost reduction expected from a 6-star power, though it does provide additional fuel for the "Chase Gun" strategy.
Gameplay Tips
  • Strategic Re-Summoning
With the Dreadway Chase Gun build, do not hesitate to let Mel be removed from combat. The primary goal is to replay her to generate more Warning Shots for direct Nexus damage and to trigger her abilities.
  • Aggressive Deck Thinning
When not using the Chase Gun build, it is crucial to aggressively cut low-impact spells at healer nodes. This thins the deck, increasing the probability that her relics and powers will create or enhance high-value spells like Rebuttal.
  • Early Game Survival
For slower control builds, prioritize survival during the first two turns. This may require passing or making sacrificial blocks until you reach enough mana to stabilize the board with a key spell.
  • Focus on Burn Damage
With the right combination of spell-based Overwhelm and direct damage, it is often possible to ignore the opponent's board and focus exclusively on burning down the enemy Nexus, effectively racing them for the win.
